Articles & Live Reports:

Appleseed Recordings
The US record company Appleseed Recordings, based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, has also been celebrating their 10th anniversary in the Industry of Human Happiness, otherwise known as the Music Business. Folk music has been closely associated with the struggle for social justice, Appleseed's president and founder Jim Musselman explains.

Ilgi Capercaillie
Unfortunately the Scottish band Capercaillie doesn't often visit the German speaking countries in Central Europe. Karen Matheson promised the audience that they wouldn't have to wait for so long to see them again live on stage. These were brilliant news for the fans that sometimes make long trips in order to join the celebration of one of Capercaillie's gigs.

Dutchfolk
In the last few years I wrote several articles on the history of Dutch folk music. I was surprised that people from all over the world contacted me with all kind of questions. Some of the most frequently asked questions were: where can we buy this music and which records/cd’s would you recommend? So, especially for this anniversary edition of FolkWorld, I have written a crash course ‘Dutch folk’.

Folkwoods Festival
What do you get if you put some veteran pop and festival experts together to organise a completely new festival? A good festival, just like the old days. That was (and is!) exactly what the organisers of the Folkwoods Festival meant to aim.

Greentrax Recordings
Greentrax Recordings was launched in 1986 by former police inspector Ian D. Green. Ian elected to take the maximum lump-sum from his police pension for this purpose. During the first five years Ian re-invested all profits in the company and drew nothing in the way of earnings, thereby ensuring a sound financial base to the company.

Irish Music Magazine Ilgi
In this anniversary issue, FolkWorld publishes a poll with the most important folk artists of the past ten years. A list which reflects the personal opinions of the FolkWorld participants and is a great start for a good discussion. In my opinion there will be no discussion about the fact that Ilgi is on the list, as they are the first group from the Baltic States that exported roots rock far beyond the country borders.

Irish Music in Germany
For years German audiences and musicians alike have been infected with the Irish music virus. Did I say years? Decades, centuries actually! The German-Irish love story may begin with the Irish missionaries and the origin of Gregorian chant.

Antje Duvekot 2007 Songs of the Sea
Irish and Scottish music are on a high, there are thousands of people making excellent traditional music, young children are taking up fiddles and banjos, there is a wealth of opportunities out there to learn tunes from summer schools to the internet. The future of Celtic music, on all levels, from hobby to profession, seems assured, but what of other musics in the wider British Isles tradition?

Tønder Festival
'The international folk music scene has never been so vibrant, productive and exciting. There is a wealth of new and established artists ...', the Tønder Festival proudly stated in 1998. A decade later, Denmark's premier folk festival keeps singing 'Will the Circle Be Unbroken'.

Webzines
There are paper magazines about folk and world music. There are websites of print magazines. But are there any web only magazines in the internet? Indeed, there are trillions of sites covering specific genres or regions, but even after 15 years of the world wide web there is very little that covers the whole spectrum of traditional, folk, world and roots music.

T:-)M's Nightshift: Book Reviews
Texans, Okies, Tories. 'Sometimes I don't know where this dirty road is taking me, sometimes I can't see even the reason why,' singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt mused. 'But I guess I'll keep a ramblin', lots of booze and lots of gambling. It's easier than just waitin' round to die.' Townes had been the wandering minstrel strolling around for the sake of a song. The people of the southern plains left their homesteads to find occupation and good fortune. Only Tory Islanders stubbornly kept to their barren rock in the stormy sea.

Austrofolk

Kulturinsel Einsiedel Folk in Schleswig-Holstein

My Private Radio Days

Deitsch, Folk on the Water 2007 ulman

Vor drei Jahren kam Folk on the Water in Salzgitter-Gebhardshagen dazu.

Warum? Was bietet uns Musik?
