Welcome to the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle. We are a voluntary organisation formed to encourage, foster and perpetuate the folk song and ballad tradition of the Inishowen Peninsula.
On the second Friday of the months September until June the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle run a session, either in McFeeley’s Bar, Clonmany or in the North Pole Bar, Drumfries. We are indebted to James & Orla in McFeeley’s and to Hilda in the North Pole for providing such warm and welcoming venues for the sessions. While the night mainly revolves around singing, we often have a few tunes thrown in, as well as plenty good company and craic. We welcome all to the sessions to sing, play or sit back and listen.
Each year on the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, The Inishowen International Folk Song and Ballad Seminar featuring performances, sessions, workshops and lectures takes place in the villages of Ballyliffin, Dumfries and Clonmany. Singers and lovers of traditional song come not only from Ireland but from Scotland, England and the USA, to share their songs in performances, informal sessions and workshops.
Sponsored by Inishowen Development Partnership, The Inishowen Song Project is a collaboration between the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle (ITSC) and the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) in Dublin, to host recordings, videos, photographs & song lyrics, collected in Inishowen, on the Archive’s website. This state-of-the-art digital facility provides local, national and international access to Inishowen song material in a professional archival and web-based environment.
