Another Wonderful Quirky

Weekend Full of Music & Fun

Folk East, the unique folk festival in Suffolk to the North-East of London, has over the years really made an art out of its exquisite folk programme combined with quirky village fete atmosphere. 2019 was another escape away from everyday life to the wonderful Folk East village – every year it feels like coming home. This is without any doubt one of the best family folk festivals out there. As so often, pictures speak more than words…

Relaxed atmosphere at the beautiful festival site.

Folk East from the air – view of the festival site in the parkland of Glemham Hall from the aeroplane, on Thursday with the campsite just starting to fill up.

One of the few artists from outside of the British Isles, Polish shanty singers Brasy brought lots of atmosphere, fun and their powerful voices to Folk East.

Irish master player Sharon Shannon made a memorable appearance on the main stage.

The Cara Dillon band, the final band on the main stage for Saturday Night.

There is always some quirky art at the festival site – such as these boxing hares.

“Young folk moot” are Folk East’s music workshops for young people – hopefully in future years they will be better advertised and given more space in the programme. This year, the young people had the opportunity to perform in a break in the Ceilidh tent.

Sheelanagig with their high energy folk music.

Excellent Welsh music with Calan.

Night setting in, with the Jackalope – Folk East’s mascot – lit up.

The magical fairy wood on the way to the soapbox stage.

One of the final bands of the festival – home grown singer songwriter Tilly Moses on the cosy Soap Box Stage, presenting songs from her forthcoming new album.
